Some people get excited about the "first Robin of Spring." Of course, birders know that Robins stick around all winter in many places.
But when you walk home from the bus stop in February, and hear Sandhill Cranes flying overhead two days in a row, you
know that Spring is on the way!

Yes, I have already seen a field full of Robins (and that a week ago on a cold day in Feb.) Spring tidings for me is the full-throated conk-a-ree of the Red-wing Blackbirds. But then we do not have the the spectacle of the cranes. What a sight it must have been! Bev
